Chalo Chalein Chanderi!

Chanderi, a hidden gem in Central India, is a quaint little town where time seems to have stood still since the 19th century. Stone houses merge seamlessly with fort walls and palace courtyards. The high spires of temples and many beautiful baolis play hide and seek throughout the town, and everywhere you walk, you hear the clickety-clack of handlooms weaving the finest ‘Chanderi’ silk and cotton. There is always a blur of activity in the bazaars, and as the sun sets over the majestic Chanderi Fort, the town comes alive with mesmerizing folk songs echoing from the low hillocks of the Malwa Plateau. Yet there seems to be a strange stillness in the air, bordering on the eerie!

About The Tour

Chanderi is “Not just Sarees”!. For those who think that Chanderi is a “shopping destination” meant for shopaholics, Chanderi holds a whole lot of surprises! Situated strategically on the borders of Malwa and Bundelkhand regions, this historic town has witnessed the rise and fall of empires, each leaving behind traces of their influence on its architectural marvels and cultural amalgamation.

Obviously one of the most prominent features of Chanderi is its centuries-old tradition of weaving, which has earned it a distinguished place on the global map of textiles. The town's famed Chanderi sarees, known for their sheer texture, delicate zari work, and intricate designs, are prized possessions for connoisseurs of fine craftsmanship.
But beyond its textile heritage, Chanderi boasts a wealth of architectural wonders that bear testimony to its glorious past. The imposing Chanderi Fort, perched atop a hill overlooking the town, stands as a sentinel of its erstwhile grandeur. Constructed during the medieval period by various rulers

including the Bundela Rajputs and the Mughals, the fort offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and provides a glimpse into the town's tumultuous history.
Exploring the narrow lanes of Chanderi's old town, one encounters an eclectic mix of Hindu, Jain, and Islamic architectural marvels, each narrating a saga of artistic brilliance and cultural syncretism. The Jama Masjid, with its elegant domes and intricately carved pillars, bears testimony to the town's multicultural ethos, while the serene tranquility of the Jain temples, adorned with elaborate frescoes and ornate sculptures, invites contemplation and reverence.
